YOU are a big deal
Picture it.
There were 400 of us in a large conference room at The Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego. Most of us women, all of us entrepreneurs, and all of us most DEFINITELY engaged with our teacher, Amy Porterfield.
We had just come back from lunch on the first day of The Entrepreneur Experience workshop.
As she stood on stage, Amy looked around the room and emphatically stated: "You are A BIG DEAL."
"Oh, yes!" I thought to myself. "This is going to be a great discussion."
In fact it was such a big subject that it became one of the themes of the weekend—and I was glad for it.
It's actually a topic that I've been thinking about for a some time now.
A while ago, I was in conversation with someone I knew and I said that I was a good coach.
"Don't ever let anyone hear you say that!" was his horrified response. "Especially not your clients."
His reaction caught me totally off-guard.
What is this double-talk in our society where one minute, we're being told that we all have special gifts to share. Yet once we do that, we're told to go hide our light under a bushel?
I'm passionate, a great listener and a darn good cook.
I'm also not the best at math, get cranky when overstimulated and have a bad sense of direction.
If I can admit my weaknesses, then what's so awful about acknowledging my strengths?
My answer is—nothing.
Recognizing our worth and our value is self-loving.
It gives us the confidence to share our gifts with others who need them—even if that just means that we brighten their day.
Being in this mindset increases our motivation and excitement to create and give and love. It rewards us with feelings of peace, joy and fulfillment. Frankly, it makes our lives a whole lot happier and easier.
What's not to love?
I am a big deal and my friend, YOU ARE A BIG DEAL, TOO.
Can you own that? Use these questions to try your amazingness on for size:
What are your strengths?
What do you need to do to own up to your zone of genius?
What thoughts, beliefs or habits keep you staying small?
Believe in your greatness. And see how your and others' lives changes because of it.
