10 ways to rediscover your passion

I don't know about you, but it's right around now when I begin feeling a bit tired of winter. Even here in Southern California! I miss sunshine and flip flops and warm breezes. It's easy to feel as gray as the clouds and pull into myself for warmth. Sometimes even my inner-spark wants to hibernate.

Since it's February, the month of passion, let's talk about these blah feelings. We want to be connected to our hearts, right? We want to know what our heart really wants so that we can take action and make it happen. So what do we do when we feel blah and indifferent? How can we reconnect to our passion? Here are 10 ideas.

  1. Move. Exercise, go for a walk, shovel some snow, sweep the porch—just about anything will do.

  2. Get into nature. Being in nature helps us get back in touch with our true nature and deep desires. Enjoy the peace, quiet and calm and let your mind wander.

  3. Engage in a creative activity. What really gets you going? It could be cooking an extravagant meal. Making personal Valentines for loved ones. Writing a blog post. Taking photos that capture your perspective of things. Whatever it is, just pour yourself into it!

  4. Listen to music that speaks to your soul. There’s something so special and powerful about music. The vibrations, rhythms and lyrics are like a balm for our spirit.

  5. Surround yourself with things of beauty. Do you feel moved by visiting museums? Browsing around a certain store that sells items you cherish? Spending time in a flower garden? Sitting by the ocean? Observing beauty is an underrated way of feeling linked to something greater than yourself.

  6. Love-up some animals. Play with your own pets, or give TLC to shelter animals who could use a kind touch. The purity of an animal’s love can remind you of what’s really important in life.

  7. Volunteer. Nothing create gratitude and joy as deeply and quickly as giving the ultimate gift of time and attention to people, animals and organizations that need it.

  8. Lose yourself in an inspiring movie or book. Allow yourself to be carried away from your own concerns for a while. You may be surprised by what pops into your awareness when you change your focus.

  9. Clean! Kick-start feelings of flow and connection by freshening the space in your home. As a bonus, you’ll probably end up using several suggestions from this list while you’re at it. You’ll move your body, perhaps while listening to music and engaging with sentimental items you may have forgotten about.

  10. Make a date. Whether it’s in-person or by phone, sharing your experiences with a loved one helps opens your heart and reconnects you to yourself.
