Getting real…
So, tell me. How are you doing today? No, really—I’d love to know.
Personally, I’m feeling very quiet.
I have a tendency to throw myself into things...cleaning projects, intense workouts, elaborate meals, etc. And sometimes if I’m not careful, I’ll carry on at full-speed-ahead until I’m totally spent.
For me, feeling like this is a sign that I’ve engaged in TOO much output and not enough input. That I’ve spent too much of my energy without refilling my supply. That I’m out of balance, like an overdrawn bank account.
While externally, it may seem like not that much is happening right now, there’s actually an AWFUL lot that’s happening to us, internally!
You may have needed to make adjustments to your work and your relationships. Being forced to stay at home might be bringing up issues that you haven’t wanted to look at before.
Heck, between the hand-washing, mask-wearing and new ways of engaging with your environment, even the way you’re handling your most basic routines have gone through a change.
All of these tiny shifts soak up your attention and therefore...your energy.
Consider this: Imagine that for the last three or four weeks, you’ve had a constant low-grade headache.
You’ve had it from the moment you open your eyes in the morning, until you go to bed at night.
Think about ALL the conversations you’ve had with this headache. Doing grocery shopping with this headache. Trying to be kind and supportive with loved ones as you’ve had this headache.
How much more tired would you feel after living like this for a whole month? How would ALL of your activities have been impacted by this energy drain? How focused and enthusiastic would you have been as you’d go through each day?
That just about sums up how I’m feeling right now. 🙂
As I sit and write this to you, I’m asking myself what would help me re-energize. What activity would feel like it was feeding and nourishing me? And what extra output can I eliminate right now?
I know what that looks like in my world, so now I’ll ask you.
What do YOU need right now to fill yourself back up? What can you take off your plate to make space for this? Reply to this message and let me know.
And as you mull that over, please excuse me as I go spend some time in quiet reflection and meditation. 😉
Don’t forget about yourself this week. Give yourself what you need so that you can feel refreshed and keep moving forward during this unusual time.
P.S. - I’m not kidding—message me and let me know how you’re doing. I’m all ears!
