The secret to silencing the voice inside of you
“When you know you’re destined for greatness, your potential haunts you. It keeps you up at night. You won’t feel complete until you succeed.” ~Mama Zara
I know you feel it. I’m talking about that wish that you have. The one that’s been there for years and years. The one that pops into your mind every so often when you’re being quiet. The same one which you then brush aside, thinking that you’re too old to make it happen, or it’s too hard, or too impractical…or just plain ridiculous. The one you’re afraid will be met with disapproval by your loved ones if you actually followed it.
So instead of dealing with the “embarrassment” of trying for it, you ignore that dream, believing that it’s just a fantasy that could never become a reality. You give into your secret, longstanding fear of failure and push is aside. It seems easier to do that, then to give it a go, right?
But IS it really easier?
The truth is, friends, in case you haven’t noticed it already, that idea is NOT going to go away without a fight. We can try to distract ourselves. We can try to drink over it, shop over it, distract ourselves or numb out in order to stop thinking about it. But have you noticed that that never really works?
The secret to silencing that voice inside you, is to actually lean INTO it. Listen to what it has to say, and just do ONE thing to learn more about it. One thing to get a taste of it.
Maybe you’ll love it—or maybe you’ll hate it! But you’ll never know unless you explore it. And the thoughts of it won’t go away until you try it, either.
Start by acknowledging that this curiosity exists for you. Then just humor yourself by doing ONE thing this week to get more acquainted with it.
Wouldn’t doing that actually be FUN? Are you up for it? (Please say, “yes!”)
